Causes

Quality Education

In all aspects of the school and its surrounding education community, the rights of the whole child, and all children, to survival, protection, development, and participation are at the center. This means that the focus is on learning which strengthens the capacities of children to act progressively on their own behalf through the acquisition of relevant knowledge, useful skills and appropriate attitudes; and which creates for children, and helps them create for themselves and others, places of safety, security and healthy interaction. (Bernard, 1999) REED Nepal has several activities and providing various level of training to the teachers to improve a quality education by improving people’s lives and sustainable development. In REED Strategy education has been places as major priority area in the REED strategy (2017-2021) with the objective to “Improve all aspects of quality education ensuring its excellence”. Major progress has been made towards increasing access to education at all levels and increasing enrolment rates in schools particularly for girls who has not receive the opportunity of basic level education and learning. Due the effort made by REED through several years in Himalayan region now the changes has been identifies as basic literacy skills have improved tremendously. REED has set various indicators to measure the objective and outcomes through implementing child-friendly education and increasing in learning achievement among school children targeting 500 schools with 3000 teachers.

Learning and Life Skill

Life skills are the psychosocial abilities for adaptive and positive behavior that enable individuals to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life. It is also the participatory learning that aims to increase positive and adaptive behavior by assisting individuals to develop and practice psycho-social skills. REED Nepal basically focuses to “Ensure equitable access to appropriate learning and life-skills programmes that are mainly focused on children and youth of our primary beneficiaries in our project areas. We train and educate them on various form of life skills that brings them an ability to involve through self-employment or start their business by their own. Such skills will help them to fulfill their future dream and decrease the rate of migration and dependability. The strategic objective will be implemented by targeting those individuals who want to start their own business in their local areas. We also provide them training to develop a business plan to start a various small-scale business using the local resources. REED has also conducted various vocational training for children and youth. We have aimed 300 children and youth for life skill training and expected that 200 will start their own business through this learning and life skill domain of REED Nepal.

Gender and Social Inclusion

The growing issue of each nation is the gender disparity between male, female and others. REED Nepal has identified that the issue of gender and social inclusion is the major objective to bring changes in Nepal. Thus, REED has included to “Reduce gender disparities and improve social inclusion” through major intervention in the program. REED has initiated a various social program where the proportion of women and men in equal considering the fact that there is no gender disparities and everyone should receive equal opportunity to access the facilities. More focus has also been highlighted to improve social inclusion through encouraging women actively in decision making and take leadership on the various program conducted in their areas. Thus women empowerment has been initiated through REED’s regular programme in various part of the country. REED aims to achieve the strategic objective to increase by 20% by the end of 2021.
